Biomechanics is especially important in Orthopaedic Surgery, a specialty that requires precision to treat injuries relating to bones, joints, tendons, muscles and other aspects of the body’s musculoskeletal system. LSU Health Shreveport faculty physicians, medical students, residents and researchers are teaming up in the Biomechanics Laboratory to assist Orthopaedic surgeons in the development and evaluation of surgical approaches.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers a Five Year Residency Training Program. Three PGY-1 positions are filled each year through the National Resident Matching Program. The residents rotate through four Shreveport hospitals: Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center, Shriners Hospital for Children, Overton Brooks Veteran Administration Medical Center and Willis Knighton.
Dr. Yufeng Dong's lab in the Department of Orthopaedics and Dr. Chris Kevil's lab in the Department of Pathology wrote a collaborative review article, "Notch Signaling in Osteogenesis, Osteoclastogenesis, and Angiogenesis," published in The American Journal of Pathology
A study performed by LSUHS Orthopaedic Surgery faculty, residents and medical students was recently published in and featured on the cover of the Orthopaedic Research Society's Journal of Orthopaedic Research.
The Louisiana Orthopaedic Association is a statewide, professional membership organization comprised of orthopaedic surgeons, orthopedic residents and affiliated healthcare providers.
