2018 Christmas Party
This year the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy hosted our annual Christmas Party at Silverstar Steakhouse.   As you can see from the pictures, we had quite a turnout from the faculty, students, postdocs, and staff.

Spring Seminar Series
The 2019 Spring Seminar Series began on February 7th  with a seminar from one of our own, Hemangini Dhaibar, a PhD Candidate working in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Glasscock.    The title of her talk is " Cardiorespiratory Profiling Reveals Primary Breathing Dysfunction as a Candidate Mechanism for Sudden Death in Epilepsy". 


Congratulations to Dr. Alexandra Finney!   
On 11/8/18 Alexandra Finney successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation entitled "EPHA2 Regulates Synthetic Vascular Smooth Muscle Fibroproliferative Remodeling in Experimental Atherosclerosis".  During the course of her career Alexandra worked in the laboratory of Dr. Wayne Orr, Professor of Pathology and Translational Pathobiology and Professor and Cellular Biology and Anatomy.   (see photo)

Congratulations to our CBA Ph.D. Candidates for their success at the 2018 Research and Industry Day Conference
Krystle Trosclair was awarded 1st place for Predoctoral Student Poster for her work on the role of neuron-specific Kv1.1 channel deficiency in epilepsy and sudden death. Hemangini Dhaibar recieved an Honorable Mention for Predoctoral Student Poster for her work on respiratory abnormalities in a mouse model of sudden death in epilepsy.

Congratulations to Drs. Panchatcharam, Miriyala, and Sun!
Dr. Manikandan Panchatcharam (PI) and his co-investigators, Drs. Sumitra Miriyala and Hong Sun, were recently awarded an Administrative Supplement for the NIH grant entitled "Alcohol-Autotaxin-LPP3 Axis in Alzheimer's Disease Risk" from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Dr. Joe Penny announced his retirement on September 1st, 2018.   Dr. Penny was one of the Founding Faculty of the Department, serving our institution for the past 45 years.   He taught in both our Gross Anatomy and Neurosciences Curricula, helping train Medical, Graduate and Allied Health Students.  Although he is retiring from his full-time faculty position, he will be returning after a short break to teach in our curriculum as an Emeritus Professor.   The Department thanks Dr. Penny for his years of dedicated service and is delighted to have him continue as an educator in our curriculum! 

Fall Seminar Series
Thursday, September 20th, at 11:30 AM was the first seminar of our Fall Seminar Series.  Our guest speaker for this first lecture was Catherine Proenza, PhD, Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Colorado at Denver.  The title of her lecture is "Molecular Physiology of Cardiac Pacemaking".
