Dr. Yufeng Dong, MD & PhD, a tenured Associate professor, is the Principle Investigator and the Director of Translational Research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also the Co-Director of Center for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine funded by LSU Health Shreveport and LA Tech University. Dr. Dong received his PhD degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University and finished his postdoctoral training in University of Rochester. He has more than 30 publications and received a significant funding from the NIH, Orthopaedic Research and Education foundation, Airlift Research Foundation and Lonza research Foundation to study the critical effects of stem cells on cartilage and bone regeneration. Research Interests: 1. The molecular and cellular events underlying stem cell differentiation that leads to skeletal tissue regeneration, including Notch, Wnt and TGF beta signaling. 2. The molecular mechanism underlying human osteoarthritis. 3. An emphasis on challenging clinical problems and translational solutions, including stem cell based cartilage, bone defect and fracture repair.
