Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience
Dr. Yunfeng Zhao was educated at Jilin University in Changchun, China. Dr. Zhao obtained his Ph.D. degree in Microbiology and Immunology in 1997 and moved to the United States to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Kentucky, progressing to the role of Scientist III studying oxidative stress and carcinogenesis. Dr. Zhao joined the faculty in Shreveport in 2006 as an assistant professor and continued his research into chemoprevention, cancer metabolism, and toxicology. He was promoted to the rank of tenured associate professor in 2012. Dr. Zhao's ongoing research projects include targeting metabolic enzymes and mitochondrial uncoupling for cancer prevention and therapy, as well as p53 mitochondrial translocation and interaction with mitochondrial functions.
