The department of neurology at LSUHSC-Shreveport is committed to excellence in academics, patient care and clinical research. Our residency program is still evolving; however, residents who have completed the program have gone on to establish themselves in clinical practices or in fellowships at this and other institutions. The majority of those who have taken their specialty board examinations have been successful in passing. Our medical students have given the first year course in neuroscience excellent reviews. We hope to expand exposure to neurology for our third-year clerkship students.

Our faculty clinicians are particularly interested in neurological education and give the resident "hands on" attention in the in-patient and ambulatory care setting. Faculty members also have busy clinical practices for the diagnosis and management of cerebrovascular disease, headache, epilepsy, movement disorders, degenerative neurological diseases, neuromuscular disorders and multiple sclerosis.

The department has been actively engaged in clinical research in areas of cerebrovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, migraine headache and various degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
