Forensic Consultations

Forensic neuropsychological evaluation involves a comprehensive assessment of cognitive, behavioral, psychological, and personality functioning in the context of a civil or criminal legal matter. A forensic neuropsychological evaluation is recommended for any civil or criminal case in which brain-based or psycyhological impairment is suspected.

Forensic neuropsychological evaluation also provides assessment and documentation of the validity of patient self-report and performance. This includes an assessment of cognitive effort and response bias, as well as psychological / psychiatric symptom exaggeration and fabrication. This is accomplished with the use of well-standardized and empirically validated measures and techniques.

Forensic neuropsychological evaluations are commonly used to document, characterize, and quantify suspected brain damage in civil cases. Factors including causation and permanence of observed impairments, prognosis, and need for future care can be assessed. A neuropsychological evaluation can also assist greatly in planning educational and vocational programs.

Forensic neuropsychological evaluations are instrumental in criminal cases where issues of cognitive capacity at the time of the alleged crime, competence to stand trial, and presence of mitigating factors for sentencing purposes are involved.

We regularly accept referrals from judges, attorneys, public defenders, insurance companies, workers' compensation, nurse case managers, and other individuals that work with the court.
