Neuroscientist Honored as Visiting Professor at Mayo Clinic

Anil Nanda, MD, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery at LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, was honored lecturer at the Mayo Clinic Department of Neurosurgery, in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was Visiting Professor on January 18.

Dr. Nanda's lecture, "Skull Base Surgery: Why the Owl Minerva Flies at Dusk," discussed the anatomy and indication the skull-base approach to neurosurgical treatment, highlighted by pictures and video of possible complications.

As Visiting Professor, Dr. Nanda also delivered an address, "Nobility of Spirit," to Mayo Clinic neurosurgery residents, discussing humanism and surgery.

In academic medicine, the designation as a Visiting Professor is a high honor, signaling that the invited faculty member is a renowned authority in his or her discipline.

In 2009, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester was ranked second among hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. Highly acclaimed for its patient care excellence, the Mayo Clinic is a non-profit organization founded in 1889 by William Worrall Mayo, William James Mayo, and Charles Horace Mayo.
