LSU Health Shreveport Medical School:

 As stated in the July, 1969 Joint Construction Grant Application:  “It is hoped that a large proportion of our graduates will opt for family practice, but that those who elect other fields of practice will retain and enhance their concern for the patient as a person, his family, and the well-being of the community”.

The LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport was founded to provide an avenue for the residents of North Louisiana to pursue a career in medicine, specifically primary care medicine.  The practice of giving care to a broad spectrum of residents in urban or rural communities is one of the goals of the LSU Health Shreveport Department of Family Medicine.
