The neurology residency at LSU Health Shreveport is a fully accredited four year program, offering a PGY1 Transitional year in the Department of Medicine. It has evolved into a mature thriving program since its inception in 2005. The program offers an educational experience in all aspects of neurologic medicine and practice. Experienced faculty members supervise residents who are encouraged to make their own decisions with increasing autonomy as they rise through the post graduate levels. Residents are exposed to the subspecialties and career training leading to successful fellowship positions throughout the country. Teaching students and fellow house officers is an integral part of the professional development of our residents, as is research and publication.
All residents have one to two half-day outpatient adult neurology continuity clinics per week. Subspecialty clinics such as Epilepsy, Muscular Dystrophy Association / Neuromuscular, Headache, Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Degenerative Disease/Dementia, Neurorehabilitation and Stroke are available during elective time. They will also participate in Pediatric Neurology clinic when on that rotation.
