Thank you for your interest in our program!  The LSU Health Shreveport Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency is a medium-sized program with a close-knit group of residents and faculty.  Most of the residents' training is completed at our region's tertiary care center, offering excellent exposure to pathology while providing compassionate care for our primarily underserved population.  Residents benefit from the depth of training that Med-Peds has to offer in a supportive learning environment, achieving competency in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  About half of our residents pursue careers in primary care with the other half pursuing fellowship training.  We will welcome you with Southern hospitality and more birthday parties, switch parties, and gift-giving occasions than you can imagine!  You will work with dedicated and enthusiastic attendings and colleagues in a challenging but nurturing environment. Please feel free explore our website and contact our residency office for any questions. We look forward to meeting you!

Med-Peds at LSU Health Shreveport is a great place to train.

We offer an intensive clinical experience with a wide range of patients and clinical settings. At the end of 4 years of clinical training, our residents are well prepared for independent primary care practice or continuing on for further fellowship training.
Traditionally, about half of our residents have pursued primary care practice at completion of their training and about half have pursued further training in medicine, pediatric or combined fellowship training programs. Increasingly, Med-Peds physicians are being sought out for hospitalist positions. Our graduates generally have their choice of exceptional private practice jobs and have successfully competed for fellowships at top academic medical centers.

Director’s Message

Hello and welcome to our website!  I am proud to be a graduate of this program and to have been able to watch it grow over the years.  Since our first residents began training in 1992, our program has strived to train competent and compassionate physicians and to prepare them for whatever career they choose, whether in primary care, subspecialty, academics, or otherwise.  Our program emphasizes not only excellence in didactics and clinical learning for our residents but also places a strong emphasis on their well-being in a positive and caring culture.

If you are interested in visiting us for an interview, please submit your application through ERAS. Thank you again for your interest!
