Welcome to Endocrinology & Metabolism at LSU Health Shreveport.
We provide our community and state with expert subspecialty care, research, and teaching, embracing the full spectrum of endocrine conditions. We provide care in the hospitals and clinics at the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center and at the Overton-Brooks Veterans Administration Medical Center. We see all types of diabetes, thyroid diseases and thyroid cancer, pituitary tumors, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal disorders, lipid disorders, inherited endocrine syndromes, diseases of bone, and many others.
This site has been created to provide information for staff, patients, students, and visitors, including physicians interested in applying for a position in the LSU Health Shreveport Endocrinology Fellowship program. Please explore our site, and thank you for your interest.

We provide our community and state with expert subspecialty care, research, and teaching, embracing the full spectrum of endocrine conditions.

Our section is part of a regional tertiary care hospital and medical school. Our faculty members have extensive clinical and educational responsibilities. We see patients in clinic and the hospital. We teach fellows, residents, graduate students, medical students, and physician assistant students through multiple courses, conferences and lecture series throughout the year.
Owing to the scarcity of tertiary care centers in Louisiana, the Section sees tertiary care referrals from a large area of the state: east to Mississippi border, south to Lake Charles and the Gulf of Mexico, and southeast of Alexandria.

We treat diabetes of all kinds, thyroid conditions and thyroid cancer, pituitary tumors, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal disorders, lipid disorders, inherited endocrine syndromes, diseases of bone, and others. We routinely employ the  newer diabetes technologies such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, and we provide Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) biopsies of the thyroid under ultrasound guidance.

Our faculty dedicate a major portion of their effort to the mentoring of post-doctoral fellows in the context of patient care in the clinics and during the care of hospitalized patients. Our endocrinology training program currently enrolls a total of 4 fellows, all of whom must complete a rigorous 3-year training program in internal medicine or 4-year training program in medicine-pediatrics prior to receiving advanced training in our specialty.
