What do I need to know before my appointment?

  • You must be registered for each clinic visit or before having a test.
  • Clinic registration is done by appointment time. To decrease your overall waiting time, we recommend that you do not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to your appointment.
  • Please leave your valuables at home.

 

How do I make an appointment? Do I need a referral?

The Billy Ray Bedsole Memorial Cancer Center at DeSoto Regional Health System can perform blood transfusions, I.V. Infusions, injections, and chemotherapy. Patients seen in this clinic have a cancer diagnosis. It is requested that the referring physician send the medical records prior to the appointment. Records should be faxed to (318) 872-0139.

  • Your medications -- prescription bottles and over the counter medications

What if I am admitted to the hospital?

You may be admitted to DeSoto Regional Health System.

How do I get a second opinion?

Have relevant clinic notes, diagnostics, pathology reports, prior treatment records and appropriate contact information faxed to (318) 872-0139. The referral should clearly state Second Opinion. The Clinic Coordinator will be in contact to schedule an appointment.

How do I get my prescriptions refilled?

If you are a patient in the Hematology-Oncology Clinic operated by Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at DeSoto Region Health System and need a prescription refill call (318) 871-3127 during normal clinic hours.

You will need your name, the medication needed, your date of birth, pharmacy name and phone number along with a phone number where you can be reached. Please allow time for the staff to handle this request.

Is there a charge for a copy of my records?

Yes. Fees for copies of records are determined by Louisiana state law; the fees will be explained when you call RELEASE OF INFORMATION at (318) 871-3106.

What if my doctor needs a copy of my records?

A physician’s office can call and make arrangements to have information faxed to them. Call RELEASE OF INFORMATION at (318) 871-3106 to obtain medical records.

Can I get a copy of my X-Rays?

Yes. To obtain a copy of x-rays call the MEDICAL RECORDS DEPARTMENT at (318) 871-3106. The process will be explained and any questions you have will be answered.

Is there a charge for a copy of my X-Rays?

The first copy is free. You must present a photo ID and the X-Ray will be copied to a CD. Additional copies are $5.00.

Can I participate in a Clinical Trial?

Ask your doctor if a Clinical Trial is right for you.

What if DeSoto Regional Health System is not an in-network provider on my insurance plan?

If your insurance plan does not list DeSoto Regional Health System as an in-network provider, you may be responsible for up to 100% of the hospital and physician bills.

Why does DeSoto Regional Health System charge for treatment?

We must pay for the medicine, supplies and equipment we use to treat you. We also must pay the doctors, nurses and all the employees who care for you.

Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?

Yes. We will send the bill to Medicare if you have a current Medicare card. You may have to pay your Medicare deductible or co-payment. We will send the bill to Medicaid if you have a current Medicaid card. If you have a Medicaid Community Care card, you must bring a referral from your doctor to your appointment.

Do I have to pay anything now?

Your health insurance company may require you to pay a small fee now called a co-payment. If your illness is not covered by your health insurance policy, you may be asked to pay for your treatment in advance.

What happens if my health insurance does not pay the bill?

We will send you a bill for the amount that your health insurance did not pay.

What if I want to pay my bill but cannot pay the full amount right now?

Please call our Financial Services Department at (318) 872-4610. We can help you arrange a payment plan. We also accept VISA and MasterCard for your convenience.

Can my credit be affected if I do not pay my bill?

Yes. Medical bills are just like other bills you must pay. If you do not pay your bill, your account may be sent to a collection agency. Your credit report may also show that you did not pay the bill.
