Vascular Quality Initiative

The LSU Health Shreveport Vascular and Endovascular Surgery division recently started reporting patient outcomes to the Society for Vascular Surgery® Patient Safety Organization's (SVS PSO) Vascular Quality Initiative® (VQI). Currently, LSU Health Shreveport is the only hospital in north Louisiana participating in the Southern Vascular Outcomes Network, a VQI regional group. This nationwide patient safety initiative focuses on improved patient outcomes through the development of best practices, cost reduction, and improved patient satisfaction.

Other areas have already benefited from regional collaboration. Since 2003, the Vascular Study Group of New England (VSGNE) region has experienced a reduction of in-hospital mortality due to best practices established through the VQI group. In addition to improved patient safety, various best practices established through the regional group have led to decreased length of stay, resulting in significant cost savings.

The LSU Health Shreveport Vascular Surgery Division looks forward to partnering with other regional and national vascular teams to compare outcomes in major open and endovascular surgical procedures. This national alliance allows the division to better serve its patients while providing a platform to contribute to patient safety and vascular best practices on a regional and national level.
