The division of plastic and reconstructive surgery is dedicated to the education of general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, urology, family practice, oral maxillofacial surgery residents. They are introduced to the variety of techniques and surgeries involved in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Patient management, independent thinking in the care of the patient and surgical planning is encouraged during their rotation. The residents that rotate through have direct interaction with the faculty. The residents see a variety of cases including cosmetic surgery, skin cancer surgery and reconstruction, complex wounds, breast reconstruction, reconstructive flaps to name a few.

Dr. Kim has plans to expand the division in the near future with a plastic surgery residency program. The division is also heavily involved in setting up clinical trials mainly focusing on optimizing wound healing and circulation in the diabetic population. Dr. Kim's goal is to see more translational research in the division of plastic surgery and resident education in addition to the breadth of cosmetic surgery that is already being done at LSUHSC Shreveport.
