Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - Microsurgical Lab

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is pleased to announce the creation of a fully functional microsurgical rat lab available for resident training and research. The lab is directed by Interim Director Dr. Jennifer Woerner, DMD, MD, FACS.

The microsurgical lab offers residents the opportunity to gain training in microvascular surgery, an essential component of reconstructive surgery. Each year, the residents will be allowed to participate in a 1 week hands-on course designed to give the resident a basic understanding and working knowledge of microvascular reconstructive surgery. The desire of the department is that the lab can soon be opened to all of the various surgical subspecialties at LSU Health Shreveport to aid in resident training in microvascular surgery for all of the respective departments. Additionally, the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has the future goal of utilizing this lab for continuing medical education courses open to visiting microvascular fellows/surgeons from across the country.
