Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Interventional Pain Management at LSU Health Shreveport. Located in the Northwest corner of Louisiana in tri-state area known as the Ark-La-Tex, we serve as a tertiary and quaternary referral center. This provides an excellent environment for clinical development and has helped us earn a regional reputation for education for fellows, residents, medical school students and student registered nurse anesthetists.
Our department started the first Anesthesiology Fellowship in the state. The resident didactic series includes : weekly level specific lecture series, M&M conference, Grand Rounds, case conference, mock oral board examinations and Journal Club. These ensure adequate board preparation. Our simulation center contains the latest technology for educational training. In addition, we offer our residents an option to complete a Master’s in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. We are also committed to providing innovative programs to develop management skills and future leaders in our specialty. To keep pace with our evolving specialty, our graduates will be required to achieve clinical efficiency while maximizing patient outcomes.
Residents work closely with our attendings in a collegial and tutorial academic environment. Clinical experience covers ambulatory, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, ENT, obstetric, pediatric, trauma, and vascular surgery cases, as well as, rotations through acute pain, regional anesthesia, chronic pain and critical care. Lastly, our residents rotate through the Overton Brooks VA medical center and Shriners Hospital for Children. We support clinical and basic research by encouraging all residents to work with research coordinators on departmental projects as early as possible. Investigative and case presentation projects frequently result in opportunities for resident presentations at regional or national meetings.
We are fortunate to be part of a world class university, a thriving medical school and a campus community which serves as the economic engine for the region. As you consider your future, we hope you will explore our website and become more familiar with our commitment to excellence in clinical practice, education and research.
