Willed Body Program

The Department of Cellular Biology & Anatomy manages the LSU Health Shreveport Willed Body Program. This program allows individuals to donate their remains to the medical center for the purpose of teaching and research. These academic endeavors include providing cadaveric dissection laboratories for both medical and allied health students, as well as procedural and exploratory studies for residents and surgeons, and material for clinical research. To this end, the department manages and maintains a private embalming room, with cold storage area, and a 4,200 square foot teaching laboratory.

The donation of a person’s remains for the purpose of education is the final gift that one can give to the next generation of medical caregivers and their patients. Our department and our Health Sciences Center honor their memory.
