Dr. Panchatcharam’s research focuses on lipids which play a major factor in blocking blood vessels leading to stroke and heart attack. The underlying pathophysiology of these events involves dysregulation of cellular lipids by the reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to subsequent localized inflammation and cardiovascular dysfunction. Among those major lipids, Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is been regulated and controlled by Lipid Phosphate Phosphatases (LPPs) which plays a pivotal role. Our laboratory focuses on the role of LPA-LPP axis involved in cerebro-cardiovascular functions.
