8th Annual John C McDonald Surgical Society Alumni Meeting

Program Description: The 7th Annual Surgical Society Meeting is designed to provide evidence-based information on healthcare topics directly related to surgeons. Discussions will center on different aspects of surgical practices including: 1) increasing medical capacity – a global initiative, 2) cost to benefit ration: an analysis of organizing a trauma system 3) robotic whipple. 1st Southern Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine Symposium

16th Annual Intensive Review of Internal Medicine

Location: Shreveport Convention Center

Program Description: The 15th Annual Intensive Review of Internal Medicine has been designed to review key points in the diagnosis and management of disorders of the Cardiac, Respiratory and gastro intestinal diseases. This will enable residents and practicing physicians to pass the American Board of Internal Medicine Certification and recertification examinations. Physicians will apply this new knowledge to patient care. The overall goal of this activity is to improve patient care by increasing the physicians’ ability to pass the ABIM certification examination. This will also help practitioners apply appropriate guideline based therapy in the treatment and diagnosis of conditions like hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, ischemic heart disease etc.

16th Annual Joe E Holoubek Ark-La-Tex Cardiovascular Conference

Location: Shreveport Convention Center

Program Description: The 16th Annual Ark-La-Tex Cardiovascular Conference has been designed to educate clinicians and health care professionals on evaluation and management including, recent advances, of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) including those with acute myocardial infarction. Relative roles of percutaneous interventions and coronary artery bypass surgery in the treatment of coronary artery disease patients will be discussed. Participants in the conference will also be updated on cardiac rehabilitation and the ethics of percutaneous coronary interventions in patients who are not suitable for coronary bypass surgery.

1st Stroke Fighters Symposium

Location: LSU Health Shreveport Main Auditorium, Room 1-400

Program Description: This activity is designed to improve the knowledge and performance of healthcare providers for patients with stroke and cerebrovascular disease. The overall goal of this activity is to improve patient care by increasing learner competence in diagnosing cerebrovascular accident disease, as well as improving performance in using appropriate clinical guideline treatment options including recognition, revascularization, recovery and prevention of stroke.

7th Annual Trauma Symposium

Location: LSU Health Shreveport, Main Auditorium

Program Description: The purpose of this symposium is to explore the latest innovation in trauma care and to foster leadership and teamwork principles in care of the injured patient. Experienced faculty will cover a variety of topics that are essential for maintaining a coordinated system of trauma care. Attendees will be able to discuss current topics and acquire new skills in managing severely injured patients. The symposium format includes didactic sessions, interactive discussion and hands-on training.
