The visionary candidate will hold an MD, in addition to 5 years of exemplary academic administrative and clinical experience, coupled with previous leadership experience in Neurosurgery.

Job Summary:

LSU Health Shreveport welcomes your application for the Chair, Department of Neurosurgery in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Chair, an innovative and dynamic member of the LSU Health Shreveport leadership team, reports directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, David F. Lewis, MD, MBA. The selected candidate will also interact with the leadership of the Ochsner Health System who manages our primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU.

The Chair will join LSU at a particularly exciting time in the history of the School of Medicine. A process is currently underway to make major investments in faculty expansion, facility improvement and the medical infrastructure. These improvements will advance patient care, research and education.
The Chair exemplifies exceptional leadership, continues the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence and fosters interdisciplinary management of six academic departments:


1. Pediatric Neurosurgery
2. Spine
3. Epilepsy
4. Neurovascular & Endovascular
5. Skull Base Neurosurgery
6. Neurotrauma


The Ochsner/LSU Health Shreveport Department of Neurosurgery faculty physicians provide cutting-edge patient care, conduct world-class clinical and basic research, and offer the highest quality undergraduate and graduate medical education experiences. The Ochsner/LSU Health System provides state-of-the-art neuroscience treatment facilities including Gamma Knife, the
Skull Base Lab, Neuro ICU, Interventional Neuroradiology and PET Scan facilities, that are universally recognized as leading in medical neuroscience in the southern United States.
The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders. It is also important that the candidate possess strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues and meet budgets, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents both internally and externally.
The Chair will oversee, coordinate and encourage research within the Department. Candidates must have a distinguished record in Neurological Surgery, outstanding surgical skills and commensurate clinical activities. Candidates must have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students, and qualify for the rank of Professor of Neurosurgery. Eligibility for a Louisiana Medical License is required.
