We are educating and training the next generation of health care professionals and scientists who will continue our proud legacy of innovative and lifesaving healthcare and cutting-edge medical research.

As one of only one hundred forty academic medical centers (AMC) in the nation, LSU Health Shreveport is a revered treasure in a community that fought decades for its creation.  Our primary teaching hospitals are located in Shreveport and Monroe and are managed by the Ochsner LSU Health System of North Louisiana.  Additional teaching sites include the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Willis-Knighton Medical Center, CHRISTUS Health and Rapides Medical Center.

WE ARE EXPANDING - Center for Medical Education and Wellness

Since our first graduating class of medical students in 1973, LSU Health Shreveport has seen many changes, experienced significant growth and achieved many successes.  A recent and significant milestone for our health sciences center occurred in October of 2018 when an agreement was signed with nationally recognized Ochsner Health System to co-manage our primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe. Further bolstering the future of LSUHS is the construction of the Center for Medical Education and Wellness. This new facility will accelerate the educational growth necessary to address the healthcare workforce shortage.  Expanded hands-on opportunities and study spaces that reflect the learning style of today’s students are integral in the centers’ design along with mandated student wellness space. This $60 million project reflects a public-private funding model. Combined funding from federal, state, and local governments with grants and private philanthropy will make it possible to construct the first new building on LSU Health Shreveport's campus in 15 years.
