Carseats and Restraints Keep Every Youngster Safe

Every year hundreds of children suffer injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. Experts say many of those injuries could be prevented with the use of a properly installed child passenger safety seats.

Unfortunately, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 80 percent of car seats are not installed correctly.

That's why the Children's Hospital of LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, the LSUHS Foundation, and Kohl's Department Stores through its Kohl's Cares® program have teamed up to create the CARKEYS (Carseats and Restraints Keep Every Youngster Safe) program.

The CARKEYS program increases the number of NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) certified technicians in the Ark-La-Tex through education and training.  Increasing the number of certified technicians allows the CARKEYS program to reach more community members than before about proper car seat installation and use to prevent unnecessary injury and fatalities in motor vehicle accidents.

Throughout the year, Kohl's Stores sell special Kohl's Cares® merchandise where 100 percent of the net profits are donated to support health and educational opportunities for children.

The CARKEYS Program will be an ongoing effort between the Children's Hospital of LSUHSCS, the LSUHS Foundation and Kohl's® to educate parents about the need for car seats and their proper installation.
