Kid Med Info
KIDMED is a program of Louisiana Medicaid that provides preventive health care for Medicaid-covered children under the age of 21. The goal of KIDMED is to find and treat health problems early and to ensure that healthy children stay that way. KIDMED gives children medical exams every so often, including hearing and vision checks after age 4. KIDMED gives immunizations at the appropriate ages and includes lab tests to look for certain common problems.
KIDMED screening is mandatory under Louisiana Medicaid effective June 1, 2003.
Services include:
- Head to toe physical
- Beginning at age 4, vision & hearing screening
- First well baby check at 2 weeks until 17 years & 11 months
- Immunizations
KIDMED is not just a physical exam it is a thorough exam that is done by qualified nurses. They make sure the child is developing on the curve for that age group, eye exams, hearing exams, led levels, making sure the patient is up to date on vaccines, flu shots and any other vaccines that are necessary.
Appointments are made for patients that are linked to LSU Children’s Clinic and fall in the periodicity time schedule as it relates to their ages. (Example: two months, four months, six months, etc.) When the patient reaches the age of two we see them every year after until they the age of six and then we begin to see them on the even birth years.
We welcome newborn babies that have Medicaid and are not linked to another physician for KIDMED at the time. After their first clinic visit we are responsible for making all future appointments.
Appointments start at 8:00 am thru 3:30 pm. If a patient misses an appointment it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to call 318.675.8607 to reschedule that appointment.
