Family Health Day will offer free cancer screenings to the community. 

Family Health Day at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center on Feb. 24

SHREVEPORT – The second annual Family Health Day at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and go until 1 p.m.

February is National Cancer Prevention Month, and LSU Health Shreveport’s Feist-Weiller Cancer Center is partnering with University Health – Shreveport to offer a day of free cancer screenings to the community. Free screenings offered will include: mammograms, prostate cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancer, colon cancer, and cervical cancer.

In addition to screenings, free blood pressure and glucose checks will be available. There will also be a healthy smoothie demonstration with samples provides, and seminars hosted by Feist-Weiller doctors and nurses on breast health, prostate cancer, osteoporosis, living well by eating well, healthy lifestyle habits, and cancer research.

“Screenings are important and help prevent or find a cancer early. Family Health Day taking place during National Cancer Prevention Month is a great opportunity to educate members of our community about cancer risk factors and healthy lifestyle choices they can make to lower their chance of a cancer diagnosis,” said Dr. Shawn Milligan, LSU Health Professor of Medicine and Director of the Lung Cancer Screening Program at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center.

No appointments are required and there is no charge to attend Family Health Day. All ages are welcome, but participants must meet screening guidelines.

Free breakfast and lunch will be provided, along with gift bags, children’s activities and door prizes. Parking and shuttle service from parking lots will be available at no cost to Family Health Day attendees.
