Thirty-four community members now comprise LSU Health Shreveport's first Mini Med graduating class. Participants ranged from teenagers to retirement age. Some are interested in applying to medical school in the future, but most attended simply to learn more about interesting topics and see more of the programs and facilities LSU Health Shreveport offers.
The group heard lectures each Tuesday evening for a month in an easy to understand format from the same faculty members and experienced the same hands-on activities of a real medical school class this spring. The feedback was positive, with everyone responding that they would recommend the program to their friends and family.
"All of the lecturers seemed joyful and honored to speak to us," said one participant. "That was the absolute best part!"
