With the 4th of July approaching, Emergency Medicine Clinical Associate Professor Thomas Swoboda, MD, talked to 710 KEEL about firework safety.

Dr. Swoboda also gave KTAL viewers information about handling the extreme heat this summer. Heat stroke commonly involves a change in the patient’s mentation, said Dr. Swoboda. A heat emergency involves dysfunction in one or more organs, such as kidneys, liver, or muscles, but the patient is able to think normally. Both heat stroke and heat emergency are severe conditions should be evaluated in the emergency room.
