KTBS interviewed Children's Hospital Child Life Manager Amanda Hays, CCLS, about how the Child Life Department helps pediatric cancer patients prepare for hair loss.
Thirteen-year old patient Robin Curry said that from her experience, it helps if you have fun with the process. She experimented with various wigs and now sports a blue highlight as her hair grows back. Looking different is hard, and Robin acknowledges that attracting stares from other kids is difficult. Yet, Robin has a saying that resonates with pediatric and adult patients alike: it's better to lose your hair than your life.
