Dr. Quyen Chu Establishing New Oncology Program in Vietnam

Quyen Chu, MD FACS, is serving as Program Director of Oncology Vietnam for Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO). In partnership with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)s International Cancer Corps, the organizations are developing a new oncology program in Hue, Vietnam.

HVO volunteers train, mentor and provide critical professional support to health care providers who care for the neediest populations. Hue University of Medicine provides care for approximately 20 million people in the central and highlands regions of Vietnam. The hospital sees approximately 60-70 new cancer cases each month. This international partnership is crucial in the development of human resources for the host institution. Dr. Chu was also among the first ten cohorts to have been selected for the ASCO Leadership Development Program (LDP) and serves on ASCO to select future cohorts for the program.

Dr. Chu is associate professor and chief of surgical oncology at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at LSU Health Shreveport.
