Feist-Weiller Cancer Center invites runners and walkers to dress up in costume to “frighten” cancer at the Great Pumpkin Run for Research Oct. 27 at the Centenary College Gold Dome. The family event features a traditional 5K run and health walk managed by Sportspectrum, ½ mile kid’s run, healthy lifestyle programs, Halloween costume contests for kids and adults, a pumpkin decorating contest for kids and face painting.
Great prizes for contests and teams with the largest numbers of registered runners win cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100, respectively. Pre-registration for the 5K is $20 through Oct. 26 and $25 race day. The half-mile run for kids is $15 through Oct. 12 and $20 thereafter.
Pre-registration guarantees participants a long-sleeve t-shirt. Register through Sportspectrum at http://bit.ly/P5WIEE; or, for more information call 318.813.1056.
All proceeds from this event stay in Shreveport to support cancer research and treatment at LSU Health Shreveport's Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. Fundraising projects allowed Feist-Weiller Cancer Center to grant three Idea Awards in 2011 for cancer researchers to develop their ideas. This brings local competitive grants to 25, worth a total of $1.3 million. Twelve of these scientists have been successful on the national level, bringing $8 million back to the community.
