The LSU Hospital in Shreveport is a 459-bed university teaching hospital offering primary, tertiary, and quaternary care to the citizens of Louisiana and surrounding states. We're extremely proud of our many specialized programs such as the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, designed by the Louisiana Board of Regents as a Center of Excellence. Through the expertise of medical school faculty who compose the hospital's medical and dental staff, we have developed sophisticated resources such as a Level I Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center, ECMO program, and Gamma Knife. We are proud of the level of care our hospital offers to inpatients as well as outpatients through its extensive clinic system.
In addition to healthcare, teaching is a very important focus of our hospital. The hospital maintains 39 residency and fellowships programs. We have a total of 510 interns, residents and fellows. In addition to the postgraduate training of physicians, the hospital is the clinical teaching site for medical and allied health students of LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport. The LSU Hospital also maintains numerous clinical affiliate agreements to serve as a clinical training site for schools of nursing, a school of certified nurse anesthetists, pharmacy schools, and other higher education institutions throughout the region.
LSU Hospital is also committed to the latest medical research, offering patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that make available the newest treatment therapies.
While the hospital attracts a robust mix of patients from all backgrounds, it continues its long-standing commitment to serving as a safety net for Louisiana citizens regardless of financial status.
