The INFECTIOUS DISEASES SECTION in the Department of Medicine is part of the Louisiana State University Health System (LSUHSC) in Shreveport. The twin cities of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan area in the northwestern corner of Louisiana, accounting for a population of approximately 390,000 people. Shreveport is in close proximity to: Dallas (3 hours), Houston (4 hours), Little Rock (3 hours) and New Orleans (6 hours).

In addition to the medical school, LSUHSC Shreveport includes 2 teaching hospitals (LSUHSC University Hospital and the Overton Brooks VA Hospital) totaling 750 beds and the Biomedical Research Institute. There are 12 core and adjunct faculty members. Areas of clinical and research interests include HIV medicine and literacy, new antibiotics, antimicrobial stewardship, viral hepatitis, virology including polyomavirus and coxsackievirus, vaccines, and fungal infections.
