In my travels around the country, I am proud to tell the story of how this community’s physicians and other prominent citizens tirelessly pursued -- and ultimately realized -- the dream of an academic medical center in northwest Louisiana. Drawing on the public hospital’s historic legacy of service and teaching, these visionaries laid the groundwork and shaped the mission.
More than four decades later we are honored to continue to build on their vision of providing the next generation of healthcare professionals for the state, while elevating healthcare services throughout the region and conducting biomedical research.
From the first class of 32 medical students, we have grown to a campus of nearly 800 students among fifteen academic programs in our Schools of Medicine, Allied Health Professions and Graduate Studies. We are proud to have more than 7,000-plus alumni from our three schools making contributions around the country. More than 600 residents and fellows train in our 39 clinical programs, and a majority stay in the region or state to practice.
We're proud of our past, and dedicated to continued growth and excellence in the future.
