15th Annual Levy Conference

The Department of Neurosurgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport will hold the annual Levy Conference: The 15th Annual Visiting Professorship in Neurosurgery on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Each year, the Department of Neurosurgery invites a world renowned neurosurgeon to be our keynote speaker. This year's speaker is Dr. Ed Benzel who is the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic, the Medical Co-Director of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Spine Research Laboratory, Course Director of the annual "Cleveland Spine Review: Hands-On," and is the former Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at LSU Health Shreveport (1980-1988).

This year's keynote presentation will be "Doing What's Right: Leadership, Knowledge, Wisdom, & Inspiration" and will discuss the global lack of access to basic surgical care.

14 million additional neurosurgical procedures per year are needed. There is a need for established training programs to develop twinning programs with areas in need. Learning objectives for this year's conference include:
*Determine & recommend corrective action for basic surgical care.
*Discuss the maldistribution of neurosurgical care.
*Describe examples of effective twinning programs.

The conference attendance is, on average, between 150 and 200 and consists of LSU Health Shreveport Neurosurgery faculty, residents, PAs, and nurses; physicians and residents from relevant departments including Neurology, Radiology, and Surgery; medical students; and healthcare professionals from the local area and region.

This is a continuing medical education activity. There is no registration fee to attend; however, pre-registration is requested. The registration form is available at www.lsuhscshreveport.edu/CME
