Educational Familiarization Program

Students from colleges and universities throughout Louisiana will be selected to participate in a six-week structured Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) review program housed on the campus of Louisiana State University - Shreveport. Kaplan reference materials and instructors will be utilized to assist students with academic preparation. Review courses include: Biology, Physics, Biochemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Essay Writing. Participating students must apply to medical school through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) while attending the program and must also take the MCAT in August of the participating year. The program is schedule to run from June 4, 2018 – July 13, 2018. 

Selection Criteria:

  • Classification: College Junior, Senior or Recent Graduate
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Louisiana Resident
  • Official Transcript
  • US Citizenship
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Six Week Participation
  • Interest in attending LSU Health Shreveport

  3. Transcript: Transcripts of all schools attended must be submitted as part of the application process. Transcripts can be mailed directly to the Office of Multicultural Affairs, 1501 Kings Highway, P.O. Box 33932, Shreveport, Louisiana 71130-3932. You may obtain a transcript through the registrar’s office.
  4. Letter of Recommendation. Please submit two Letters of Recommendation by a science faculty member who is familiar with your academic performances and personal attributes: strengths, weaknesses, attitude, and character. Letters of Recommendations may be mailed directly or submitted electronically to: Please submit Letters of Recommendations on official school letterhead stationary only. 
  5. Description of Disadvantaged Status (Refer to Section C).
