Student National Medical Association

The SNMA was founded in 1964 as the student arm of the National Medical Association. The student governed organization has more than 7,000 members attending allopathic and osteopathic medical schools throughout the United States and the Caribbean.  SNMA seeks to promote academic achievement among minority medical students and serves as a vehicle to voice their concerns.  The objectives of this nonprofit organization are to increase the number of competitive minority students entering the healthcare professionals; to sponsor programs for pre-college and college students, which promote healthcare career decisions; to address issues related to healthcare disparities; and to produce healthcare professionals who are culturally sensitive to the needs of a diverse patient population.
