Educational initiatives are specifically designed to meet the needs of our population. Patient education programs range from Reach Out and Read for pediatric patients, to a Breast Health Luncheon in October. Professional education programs that range from scientific symposia to Grand Rounds benefit healthcare professionals across the Shreveport-Bossier community and beyond.
CME (Continuing Medical Education)
healthelinks is a service of the library of LSUHSC Shreveport. The goal of healthelinks is to help people take an active role in their health and wellness by providing easy access to reliable sources of health information.
Reach out and Read
Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a program that promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading aloud into the pediatric exam room. This makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.
Doctors and nurses give new books to children at each well-child visit from 6 months of age to 5 years, and accompany these books with developmentally appropriate advice to parents about reading aloud with their child. This reinforces the parent's role as the first and most important teacher, and gives parents the tools and techniques to help their children succeed.
Partnerships in Science Education Pipeline
Since 1982, LSUHSC Shreveport has taken an active role to improve the pre-college science background of disadvantaged students by soliciting federal and private funds to sponsor summer enrichment programs.
